I'm very grateful that our driveway faces south. It means that as long as I can shovel enough snow to expose the asphalt of the driveway, then if the sun comes out and warms up the asphalt, then the driveway can melt itself off.

Today the temperature outside (when I last checked) was well below freezing (about 5 degrees F). But with the sun out, the asphalt can soak up the energy anyway.

This means we should be able to avoid having an icy driveway for months at a time.
